REPORT

On September 29, 2023, we conducted an awareness programme on "climate change and its hazards effects" as part of our M.Ed. 4th semester curriculum on the paper SDC:7, "Participation in Rural Reconstruction and Social Welfare in Collaboration with LSG.". The session was organised and led by myself and my classmate, Mrs. Merina Sabu, as part of the self-development course at vattappara. Our main goal was to educate the community about climate change and its consequences. We arrived in Vattappara at 11:30 a.m well-prepared with informative materials like brochures and slide presentations. The brochure contained information about climate change and its effects, while the slides visually showed events that had impacted our country. Our house-to-house visits started at 11:45 a.m. We visited about 15 houses in the village. At each house, we introduced ourselves and explained the purpose of our visit. Then, we talked about climate change, its causes, and the negative effects on both the environment and society. We also discussed strategies to reduce these impacts. During our presentation, we showed photos of events caused by climate change that had affected our country. The program ended around 2 p.m., lasting about two and a half hours. The response from the villagers of Vattappara was positive and cooperative throughout. They actively participated in our discussions, shared their concerns, and talked about their experiences with climate change and related events. We were pleased to see the villagers' genuine interest in our topic. Many residents openly shared their concerns and personal experiences, showing an increasing awareness of the importance of addressing these issues in rural areas
